I know that this show may be for the kids, since its fantasy and everything, but I found this show excellent. Nicole Kidman is a fantastic actress, and after being so used to seeing her on the 'good side', it was definitly a change which I was very interested in. Lyra, for a young girl, she carries out her role very well, portraying a confident girl with hopes and aspirations. Excellent movie overall, especially with a talking polar-bear, that sealed the deal haha.
There's going to be a sequel, which you will know if you've watched the movie, about Azriel being saved. The show is based on Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials which is a trilogy i haven't read, but i plan to go to my local bookstore and buy it immediately!
I went to see The Golden Compass 2 weeks after seeing Stardust and I have to confess I thought that Stardust was the better film. I was a bit surprised at the ending of the Golden Compass until someone told me it was to be a trilogy. I didn't think the film really lived up to its hype. Obviously Stardust is a one off and so a much more complete film but I thought it was excellent. If you haven't already seen it and it is still showing you should give it a go or get the DVD out when it's available.
GC has a bit of controversy here in the States due to its antagonism of the Catholic Church and theism in general. It doesn't bother me as I'm quite firm in my faith (or lack thereof... ) but there are quite a few Bible Thumpers who would rather turn our republic into some sort of ham fisted Christian theocracy.
That said, I haven't seen the film although, my daughter expressed an interest in doing so. We might have to wait until the DVD comes around.
This has been another random act of nonsense.

I finally went to see this last night and I really enjoyed it. I haven't read the book yet, but I have got it. I thought the girl playing Lyra was brilliant, much better than most young actresses. And I loved the cameos from great British actors such as Derek Jacobi and Christopher Lee. Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman weren't bad either ;D
The special effects were incredible in my opinion, the ice bears were amazing. I've never seen CGI animals so well done before. I hope they film the other two books in the trilogy!
