"Penelope" is opening this weeking in the US. Has this film opened already in the UK?
I really want to go see this! It looks so sweet and fun. And it doesn't hurt that Mr. McAvoy is in it. I like Christina Ricci and Reese Witherspoon, too, and it seems that a load of other great actors are also in it.
I haven't seen anything that I wanted to this winter (Atonement, Lars and the Real Girl, Juno) so I am dragging a friend to the theater to see this. Not that she doesn't want, too, but the both of us are having a hard time getting out of the house and together this winter.
This was a funny, sweet film. There were just a few weak moments, where I thought there should have been more, but I suppose they fit with its' floating quality/feel. I loved the music. The setting was also neat -- modern day with a number of classic or magical things thrown in -- items from the last hundred years (suitcases, clothing, vehicles, etc) or over the top lovely scenes. Christina Ricci was also lovely, Catherine O'Hara fun, and James McAvoy - well, you know . Lots of other people popped up that I was whispering to my friend about (although she had no clue, I couldn't help myself) - Nick Frost, Simon Woods, Richard Leaf, Peter Dinklage, Lenny Henry, and a few others that I was like - and the annoying little clerk from Bleak House, you know! I'd definitely go and see it again.
Not that she doesn't want, too, but the both of us are having a hard time getting out of the house and together this winter.
Yes - these are the situations where these message boards are so wonderful - you may be cut off from the real world around you but there is another wonderful world beyond amongst Boglies and others to make up for it!!
