At that moment Gerard announced that the meal was ready and would they all follow him in to the Dining Room.
Fergal and Katrina led the way followed by Molly and Golly, Archie and Lexie and their children, Lizzie and Martha, Paul and Isobel, Harold and Kieran, Brendan and Tanya, Alan and Shelagh.
There was much talk during the meal but Molly couldn’t help noticing a very close talking between Brendan and Tanya who seemed to be getting on well together!! She mentioned this to Golly who replied “Well, lass, that’s nice - who knows what might come of it!!”
At he other end of the table Fergal couldn’t help noticing a friendly conversation going on between his sister and Alan! “What do you think, Kat” he said quietly to Katrina “Oh! I wouldn’t worry” replied Katrina “Let’s just enjoy our evening and them theirs!!”
At the end of the meal, all returned to the Library except the two couples who disappeared outside as observed later by Molly each pair going arm in arm in different directions!!
As the day drew on Lizzie suddenly remarked to Molly “Have you seen Fergal and Katrina?”
“As a matter of fact, I haven’t” she replied!
Gerard overheard the comment and said “Excuse me madam, but I couldn’t help overhearing what you said, but the young couple slipped out a short while ago to go on their honeymoon and I understand that the other Laird, Paul MacDonald is looking after things in their absence - so you have nothing to worry about”
”Oh, thank you Gerard for telling us - I will let Paul know that they have left and that he is now in charge”
Molly went to Paul to tell him. "I wonder where they went for their honeymoon" mused Molly to Paul.
"Well Fergal told me that as they both enjoyed the wild countryside so much, that they were going to spend their honeymoon traveling around the wild part of south west Ireland going from one B&B to another before settling down to the serious business of running their new estate"
The rest of the day passed without incident and eventually all retired to their own accommodations, relieved that everything - even Donald’s unexpected appearance - went off so smoothly!!
Next day, being Sunday, most of the guests spent the day quietly in their own places except for Brendan who had been invited over to Glin House. Kieran was happy to seen Brendan and his daughter getting on so well, spending most of the time meandering around the grounds, hand in hand. The day passed by too quickly for their liking but Brendan said that he had to go back to work on the next day but he would be happy to come back next weekend!! Tanya was happy to hear that and said "Next time you must come and stay with us instead of going back to the hotel"
"That would be wonderful, Tanya, and I will definitely take you up on this offer!!" with that he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek and left!
In the meantime, Alan and Shelagh remained in the grounds of Castle Connel discretely avoiding Paul and the other guests as he was now in charge there. They were not to be sen by anyone else as they found a gazebo in a quiet corner of the grounds; it was a bit dilapidated but they were not worrying being more engaged in each other than the surroundings!! Next day they were to return to their own places but decided that, as they did not have to rush home, they would take a short trip together to Dublin next day before parting!
Molly and Golly decided to return home as the adventure had been quite tiring for them as they were not long after their own honeymoon and Golly was worrying about how Ewan and Amy were making out at the House!! "Oh! Lizzie" quizzed Molly "would you and Martha like to come back with us for a while, at least until Paul and Isobel return, as they have decided to stay on here for a few days and look around whilst Fergal and Katrina are away?"
"That would be lovely, Mummy" replied Lizzie "and I know Martha will love it as she always does"
"Good - then we will leave tomorrow morning"
Archie and Lexie wanted to get back home too with the young children and Archie was happy the way things had worked out between Lexie and Katrina! "By the way" he said to Lexie "what's all this about a young Archie?"
"Oh! that" said Lexie "was just a false alarm - it must have been something that I ate at the luncheon" and then, with a smirk "perhaps Katrina put something in my food" and they both laughed!!
Donald and Molly seemed to have disappeared - but where??
Soon they were aboard the plane and heading home again. Golly was looking extremely pleased and Molly was looking forward to starting another landscape painting.
Lexie and Archie were discussing the wedding with Lizzie and Martha.
"I't great that Katrina has finally found happiness with Fergal," commented Archie "she looked beautiful too."
Lexie felt her anger rising but bit her lip instead.
"Golly, I wonder what happened to Donald and his lady friend?" said Molly , "what's her name?"
"Molly," replied Golly.
"Yes dear ?" she replied.
"No lass... her name was Molly... Molly O'Sullivan," explained Golly.
"Oh yes how could I forget that, silly me," Molly laughed.
Golly reached over and kissed his wife... "I love you more than you'll ever know Molly MacKenzie," he whispered.
Paul and Isobel had become really close again. This time spent together had refreshened their feelings for one another but both were still wary about taking their relationship any further. They sat chatting endlessly whilst surveying the magnificent countryside before them. They went for long walks, hand in hand, around the estate. All thoughts of Iona were gradually being erased from Paul's mind but he knew he must not be impatient with Isobel.
"I'm so pleased that Patrick is taking over here in a couple of hours" said Paul as he and Isobel sipped wine at the table that morning. "Much as I love being here, there's so much to do at home and my course to prepare for again"
"Are you sure that's what Fergal meant?" asked Isobel.
"Oh yes, Fergal rang last night and said that now Patrick - one of his best mates, is back in the area - there's no need for us to stay if we'd like to get home!"
"And I can see from your face Paul that you're longing to go back to Glenbogle!" Isobel laughed at him. He nodded.
"Does it show that much? Yes, I love the place, can't wait. As soon as Patrick gets here, we'll be off"
With their bags packed, Paul and Isobel were sitting outside waiting for Patrick to arrive.
"I've had lots of time to think over Lizzies offer and I think I'll accept," said Isobel "it's a great idea and people are always getting married... we've got the venue now all we need to do is organise everything."
"Huh," asked Paul when he heard the word wedding.
"Yes, you know... what I spoke to you about earlier," Isobel reminded him..."a wedding planner. Lizzie is going to let me live with her and Martha at the B&B... she'll take care of the catering side of things and I'll organise the bride and groom and wedding party and what a wonderful venue we have right on our doorstep, "Isobel continued, "and we can organise trips and activities for the couples as well and that's where you come in Paul."
"Oh, so there's money in it for me as well?" smiled Paul, "Do you really think this idea of your's will take off?"
"I'm sure of it ... wedding planners are all the rage in America and are becoming popular here too... all I need to do now is advertise and offer a package deal...I can also do my home preserves on the side for the restaurant," explained Isobel.
Paul smiled to himself. He loved the way Isobel was so innovative and smart and positive about her future... he was sure they would make a great team.
Just then Patrick pulled up in his car and waved. They exchanged greetings and Paul handed over the keys. Their taxi arrived 5 minutes later
"Well it looks like we're off," laughed Paul loading the bags into the boot.
Patrick settled in and left the running of the place to Mary MacCormac. "I'm just going to be a gentleman of leisure" he thought to himself!!
Three days later there was an excitement at the door as Gerard let in Fergal and Katrina. "Welcome back" said Patrick to Fergal and "now introduce me to this beautiful bride of yours!"
"Patrick" replied Fergal "meet my wonderful wife, Katrina" and to Katrina "meet my old friend Patrick - a rascal if ever there was one!!"
The day passed pleasantly, Fergal and Katrina telling him all about the places they visited "Yes" replied Patrick "This is God's own country; and then Patrick finally said "I really must get back to my work but believe me it has been a wonderful break here from my work!!!"
After supper, Patrick packed his bags, they said their "Goodbyes" and he took off in a taxi.
Fergal then said to Katrina "Let's have an early night in preparation for tomorrow when we must familiarise ourselves with the estate, staff and tenants and get down to the business of running this place - I have great ideas for the future"
"I am sure you do my darling" replied Katrina as they happily went upstairs!!!
[THE END]
