Well another series finished but I went into Tesco's this morning and they have a lovely book for sale THE WORLD OF DOWNTON ABBEY for sale RRP £20 but at Tesco £7, only flicked through but some great photo's so I treated myself to a copy.
Did anyone see Johnathan Ross last night, he had the three Lady's on Cybil, Eideth and Mary, the actress who plays Sybil was very quiet which was a shame as she has a lovely accent. There was a short film on the show with Carson doing a number of songs to his character voice in Downton, I would imagine you can get it on Iplayer if you missed it.
Great episode, even better as I recorded it and did not have to watch all the commercial breaks, I reckon Daisy goes to Scotland and takes over the Kitchen at Glenbogle? As long as Sir Richard Carlisle does not use the proceeds from Haxby to buy the Glenbogle Estate and becom Laird because if he does don't think Duncan will last long as head Ranger?
Well Lord Julian loved the 'Downton/Glenbogle' idea! ;D
I really loved the Christmas special, was glued to it. Didn't really intend to watch all of it at once - as it went on a bit late for us, but couldn't tear myself away Some beautiful family bought me the boxed set of the series as a gift and also another person bought me series 1.
Oh I can feel a great storyline coming on, you know the episodes with the Wolves, well it has to now be Panda's, I was working at Musselburgh today and if I saw one I saw a dozen people walking around with Panda headgear on, someone must be making fortune out of those two adorable black and white large teddy bears at the Edinburgh Zoo. There is a Downton Abbey Calendar 2012 out which had some very nice photos or the months, however as Lady Mary has spurned me for some Matthew bloke I will not be buying one now?
What a great series it is ! I loved the very last scene out of the Christmas Special only.....should you stand outside in the snow in such a ballroomdress without a cape on your shoulder ? As we have discussed before, there are some scenes which reminds me to MOTG. When Matthew was arguing with Richard, I was waiting for the punch on his face, and yep at once there it was I'm looking forward to series 3 and hope that Mr.Bates may come home. The only character I don't like is Thomas, but set down so very good by that actor !
We love Downton Abbey! You can get the fine pictorial book on Amazon.com right now for about $19.00 in the U.S. No shpg. if your order is over $25.00. It is a sumptious book with everything you need to know about the characters and the beautiful estate house where the series is filmed, Highclere Castle.
They have a website with pictures and you can see the present owners.Just go to Highclere Castle.com. The present Countess has written a book about the Carnarvon relative, Lady Almina who opened a hospital in the estate house during W.W I, a part of the Downton Abbey script. The book: Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey is shown on Amazon.com for around $10.00.
Downton won for best mini-series at the Golden Globes last night! Here are pictures and Julian's acceptance speech. Elizabeth McGovern lost to Kate Winslet and Hugh Bonneville did not win his best acting award either.
You can sign up here below for the Masterpiece Theater newsletter and each week there will be pictures and a clip from next week's program. The clip from Downton Abbey episode 2:3 shows Lady Mary and Lady Edith singing a song that is on the soundtrack of the program. On the soundtrack it is sung by an Irish tenor. Its a beautiful soundtrack...most of it easy listening full orchestra with 3 voice solos.
I also love Brendan Coyle though his hot-headed father character in Larkrise to Candleford isn't my favorite of his roles. I loved him in Rockface. San Antonio Rose told me that you can now view those episodes on the telly...at least you could when she told me. We watched every one of the episodes on BBC America but missed the very last one and something major ends the series. I'll have to persue it.
One of the main characters on Rockface, Gordon Urquhart, is on Monarch of the Glen, too. Clive Russell plays Peter Finlay in 7:6.
Also on Rockface and on Downton (in only 2 episodes) is Cal Macaninch who plays Henry Lang, the man with post-tramatic syndrome. Recognize him from Rockface?
Loving the second series! My daughter and I are watching it together and she's really getting into the story lines. Can't wait until next week's episode -- last one here in Utah and I want some resolution!!
I'm looking forward to series three ! Now I'm reading the novel : The novel in the viola by Natasha Solomons. some parts of it reminds me to Downton Abbye while reading. It's also about servants in a Manor with all those instructions they get by the Butler
