Where can I find this new show "Inspector George Gently" in the US?
You can watch the first 3 episodes for free on Hulu, but it looks like amazon, hulu, and netflix have recently limited the episodes available. I've seen it on youtube, too, through uploads, often with obscure description titles, but it's been a while since I've done that. If have patience, you can probably find them all through one uploader or another. Good luck!
Well did you all see the 90 minute offering of the 1st episode of the new series of Downton, well very spicy and intriguing viewing, think I may try for a job as a footman, mind you I have a twinkle in my eye for Daisy so watch-out Stella! Can't cook for toffee so Daisy can help me and I will give her some lessons in Arithmetic.
I had to record it and I've watched it this evening. As before I loved it and couldn't move from my chair whilst it was on. I don't think the dresses were quite so spectacular this time but it didn't spoil it. Did you notice, the matriarch Maggie Smith is suddenly looking younger?
I was able to watch it as well during a very quick trip to the UK last weekend. Flew into London Friday morning then to Glasgow. I went to a wedding near Glasgow on Saturday, then flew back to London Sunday to visit friends, home Tuesday. Arrived London just in time to see DA. Loved the first episode! Can't wait to see who Lady Mary ends up with. And, what will Edith be up to? Could we please see the backside of Barrow and have him exit the show? He is really evil but manages to get back into the family's good graces every time. Don't want to say much more for those looking forward to seeing it later.
The wedding was really fun as the reception was all Scottish country dancing, complete with fiddles and guitar. And where else would you find a lovely reception with sheep grazing peacefully in the next field and a view of Loch Lomond and mountains in the distance? It gave me my 'fix' of Scotland at least for a short while.
Hubby is doing better and went back to his primary school job. It is only 2 1/2 hours 4 days a week but it means everything for him to be able to do that much. I have to drive him, of course, and he takes his walker for stability, but the children love him and always want to help. It is amazing that he can do it since 6 months ago we didn't know if he would ever walk again. We are hoping he will continue to improve in the coming months.
I hope everyone is having lovely weather as we are here in New England, very summerlike. Enjoy!
I have DA on my facebook and sometimes I read what we all can expect in series 5. I'm looking forward to see it. I hope it will come this Autumn on Dutch or Belgian Telly.
Nancy, I'm glad to hear that things are okay with your husband.
And yes here in Holland we have the same weather, a real Indian Summer it is and I hope it will stay for a couple of weeks. At the end of October, when we have Autumn Holiday, we will go for a short break nearby Amsterdam.
Oh, I loved this last series. I was apprehensive, as sometimes shows keep going when they should have given up. Looking forward to the Christmas special(s). I've put an (s), as someone told me there were going to be TWO specials this Christmas.
Got to see the DA Christmas special as I'm here in Scotland. Almost decided to avoid it as we've not yet seen S5 in the States and this is the end to that - but watched and enjoyed it anyway, though some of the story lines had me wondering a bit. Best news is that there will be a season 6!
I hope we will see that Christmas Special too. In the last epi I saw, the doggy Isis wasn't feeling well. After all we could expect that, a dog with that name. I think from now on, no dog will be called Isis anymore.
I also read that a Season 6 will follow. Let's hope the storyline will still be good, that it wont be as MOTG going downwards !
I have a feeling that tonight is the very last Downton Abbey! Grr.... another good programme to hit the dust
Last night's was episode 7 of 8 and according to The Telegraph there will be a final Christmas Special. However, I think it's run its course. Carson cooking dinner was totally out of character and whoever cooked up the 'Brooklands' motor racing scenes (mostly shot at Goodwood) should be locked up!
Yes I agree it seems to have run it's course now as the story lines are getting a bit weak, the only one who still has a bit of mystic is Barrow, seems to be going out with a bit of a whimper but it would not surprise me if Mr Fellows gives us a bone to chew on for the Christmas special, nice touch with Lord Grantham being given a dog by the best actress inthe series Maggie Smith.
Mmm, although I still enjoy the programme, I agree that it's not holding my attention as much as it used to. I've noticed that Maggie Smith started in the first series looking fairly old and grandmotherly, as the series have progressed, she's looking younger in each one! Strange! I'm a bit fed up with the motor racing bit. Unbelievable that Mary could attend a race even, after the death of her first husband in a car. Anyway, one more episode this Sunday.
Me too Marie, still a few ends to tie up then I hope. I shall really miss the wonderful background shots of the house too. Like Monarch, the setting was so much part of the programme, I could just sit and look at that beautiful library without any actors!
I corresponded with him once, perhaps I'll suggest it to him? Wouldn't that be terrific if he were to make another few series of MOTG but, of course, we'd expect them to have the same actors and that wouldn't be possible, would it, I think it would really spoil our memories to see other actors taking their place, what do you think? Who would you even suggest take their place?
MOTG would never be the same with other actors! Just look at other series where characters are replaced by other actors. But who knows Julian is writing already another drama or other kind of series which wil be a hit.
I wouldn't be surprised if some of the original cast could be persuaded to return for another series if Julian Fellowes were to write it, it seems to me that his scripts are so good that actors are queueing up to have parts. He is so good at creating characters that I'm sure he could create new ones we would love too. Yes, Marie please suggest it to him!
Really one of the best series ever ! I've seen the last epi and really loved it ! I've also have seen one of the making of programs, the second one I still have on my recorder, didn't see it till now.
Who are your fav characters/actors in it ?
My fav is Barrow/ Rob James-Collier. That chap set down this character so well. From a bad boy in the first series till one of the beloved members of the personel at the end. How his character changed, unbelievable. I was crying with him at the moment of his crying scene downstairs
Two character/actors I didn't like where the two lovers of Lady Edith and Lady Mary. Such wooden dolls it were. I know it also had to do with how they behaved in that period but if you compare the acting of them with all the others, it was really nothing. There was no chemistry at all between Mary and Henry, neither between Edith and Bertie.
Another fav one is Daisy. I think Julian Fellowes had Lexie in mind while writing her character The same one-liners, funny remarks, and sometimes a bit a naughty girl.
And of course the main character of Lord Robert Crawley, set down so well by Hugh Bonneville. I've seen him in several roles but this one is one of his best !
